George Tooker, self-portrait |
Sometimes I wonder how life would have been without
cellphones.
Nowadays, everything has to be captured on the phone.
Do we enjoy that moment?
Do we relish the presence of people?
Do we bask in our achievements?
Hardly,
These days are more about taking selfies.
I am sure in this picture this guy, in an age before selfies. He
managed to get a 'self-portrait" of himself with something that looks like
an achievement.
I hope, someday we realize that there is a better world outside,
real friends, real food, real occasions to be enjoyed.
I hope someday people wish friends in real & not just on
Facebook.
I hope someday people enjoy the look & taste of the food than
just sharing food pictures on Instagram.
I hope someday we take pictures for memories & not for
posting.
Someday I hope we enjoy going to places to enjoy the place &
not for checking it in.
I hope someday people have real conversation across the table
than, chat's with fake emoji's to portray emotions.
Ah. nothing virtual about this portrait.
ReplyDeleteYou never know these days :-)
DeleteI hope so too! I've started writing letters again. My scrawl can be a bit difficult to read, but I still prefer them to emails.

I loved the good old days without cellphones...
ReplyDeleteI have one myself, the cheapest unfangled thing available and use it mainly as a gentle alarm to wake me from sleep, never text and only six folk have my number. I can't remember when I last used it as a phone...
